Got married, corrected a spelling error, or legally changed your name? Your DL and RC both need to reflect it — mismatched names cause problems during insurance claims, vehicle resale, and even loan verification.
Documents required (as per Parivahan Sewa)
Original driving licence / RC copy
Proof of name change — marriage certificate, divorce decree, or gazette notification (gazette is usually needed for personal/legal changes; marriage certificate alone often suffices after marriage)
Updated ID proof — Aadhaar, PAN, or passport with the new name
Notarised affidavit stating old and new name, where applicable
Passport-size photograph
How it works, step by step
Apply on Parivahan Sewa under "Driving Licence Related Services" (DL) or your state RTO portal (RC), or visit your RTO directly.
Enter your DL/RC number and date of birth to pull up your record.
Upload documents and pay the fee.
Some RTOs require biometrics or an in-person visit.
Once approved, your corrected DL or RC is issued.
Missing documents or form errors are the most common reason these applications get delayed.
Upride is a verified RTO services platform, and we handle DL and RC name changes together, so you're not filing two separate applications at two different counters. We also cover the rest of your RTO needs — RC transfer, duplicate RC, fitness certificate, and DL renewal — across major Bangalore RTOs including KR Puram (KA53), Kasturi Nagar/Indiranagar (KA03), HSR Layout/Koramangala (KA01), Electronic City (KA51), Rajajinagar (KA02), and Kengeri/Ullal/Gnanabharathi (KA41).

FAQs
1. Do I need a gazette notification for a name change after marriage? Usually not — a marriage certificate alone is generally accepted. Gazette is mainly for personal/legal name changes.
2. Can I change my name on DL and RC together? Yes, they're separate applications, but Upride handles both together so you don't run two RTO processes yourself.
3. How long does it take? Typically 2-4 weeks, depending on your RTO and whether biometrics are needed.
4. Do I retake my driving test for a name change? No — it's a purely administrative correction and doesn't affect licence validity.
5. What about a spelling mistake, not a legal change? Minor corrections just need your existing DL/RC and an ID proof showing the correct spelling — no gazette needed.
